Raymond Joehl, MD, FACS
VA Service Rotation Director

Dr. Raymond Joehl is a board-certified general surgeon. He earned his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed residency in general surgery and research fellowship in gastrointestinal physiology at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and Hershey Medical Center. He has held several leadership positions while practicing general surgery at Penn State University and Northwestern Memorial Hospital and VA Chicago-Lakeside, in Chicago, Illinois. From 2003-2012, Dr. Joehl was Chief of Surgery at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital and Professor of Surgery, Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. From 2005-2009, Dr. Joehl was General Surgery Residency Program Director and Vice Chair-Education, Department of Surgery at Loyola. Recently, Dr Joehl became Chief of Surgery at the Phoenix VA. He is the recipient of numerous awards and actively conducts research.

Howard Bourdages, MD, FACS

Dr. Howard Bourdages is a board-certified general surgeon. He completed medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, New York. Dr. Bourdages then completed an internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has been practicing medicine since 1988 and currently practices at the Phoenix VA Health Care System.

Vivienne Halpern, MD, FACS

Dr. Vivienne Halpern is board certified in general surgery and vascular surgery. She completed medical school at New York University School Of Medicine in New York, New York. Dr. Halpern continued her training with an internship at the Manhattan VA Hospital in New York, New York. She then completed a residency and fellowship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. She has been practicing since 1987 and is currently part of the Phoenix VA Health Care System.

Richard Lopchinsky, MD, FACS

Dr. Richard Lopchinsky is a board certified general surgeon. He completed medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, New York. He continued his education with a residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York. He has been practicing since 1975 and is currently part of the Phoenix VA Health Care System.
